Jewgeni Chaldej, retrospective
The exhibition presents the complete works of Y. Khaldei on approx. 200 photographs and a variety of contemporary documents. Curator of the exhibition is Ernst Volland. Most of the images come from the collection Ernst Volland/Heinz Krimmer, Berlin.

Exhibition dates: May 9th, 2008 to July, 28th 2008.
Open: Wednesday – Monday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The exhibition will be supported by a catalogue in German of 196 pages. The texts will primarily focus on extrapolating the tension between documentary photography, propaganda and artistic photography in Khaldei’s work. Further aspects will be his relation to Stalin, the obstruction of his work due to his Jewish background, and the comparison with the works of other contemporaneous Russian photographers.
